Decision area

Commercial & Renewal

Renew, renegotiate, or run a new provider selection based on evidence. When renewal approaches, the buyer may renew, renegotiate, restructure the sourcing model, go to market, or prepare an exit. We read the contract mechanics, performance, cost, AI and human-control claims, asset ownership, and exit readiness together before recommending the appropriate renewal path.

Decision basis

Read the commercial relationship as one system.

A renewal decision is stronger when the contract, economics, service record, and operating context are interpreted together rather than scored as separate checkboxes.

The point is not to collect more material for its own sake. It is to understand what the current arrangement is actually buying, where the evidence supports a change, and which issues belong to the provider versus the program around it.

Renewal mechanics
Timing, term structure, service commitments, and the practical choices available before the renewal window closes.
Commercial structure
How rates, fees, operating charges, AI or automation billing units, and volume mix combine into the economics of the current relationship.
Service performance
What delivery, quality, escalations, and governance history say about the provider's actual performance.
Operating context
Where buyer-side workflow, ownership, approvals, or controls may be shaping outcomes that otherwise look provider-attributable.

Evidence limits

A weak metric does not identify the cause by itself.

Poor punctuality, quality, or cost signals can reflect provider performance, the operating model around the provider, or both. The renewal decision should separate those mechanisms before it assigns fault or chooses a remedy.

Possible outcomes

Review the options before returning to market.

The evidence may support a clean renewal, a renegotiation with specific changes, a competitive event, or no material change. The engagement starts with the renewal decision, not with a presumption that the incumbent should be replaced.

Relevant engagement

Use the renewal window to make a deliberate provider decision.

LSP Renewal Audit is for an incumbent-provider renewal or renegotiation. If you are choosing a first provider for a new program, start with provider selection or establish the operating model first.

Incumbent renewal

LSP Renewal Audit

Use this when a current language service provider is approaching renewal or renegotiation and you need to determine whether the arrangement should continue, change, or go to market.

If the evidence supports a competitive event, the next path is RFP & Provider Selection. If the provider decision is premature because the operating model is not defined, establish that model first.

Starting scope

One principal LSP, one renewal decision, up to 15 active languages under one commercial model, with usable contract, invoice, performance, and quality evidence.

Included work

  • Frame the renewal decision and the deadline that constrains it.
  • Normalize provider performance and cost so the current relationship can be read on a consistent basis.
  • Test AI, automation, and human-control claims against the evidence available.
  • Identify leverage, claim gaps, and the commercial or control issues that matter before renewal.
  • Assess exit readiness and the practical implications of going to market.
  • Recommend the path supported by the evidence: renew, renegotiate, or go to market.

Expected outputs

Formats confirmed at scoping.

  • Normalized performance and cost view.
  • Claim and evidence gaps.
  • Negotiation and control priorities.
  • Recommended path.
  • Executive findings briefing.

Operating boundary

We assess and frame the renewal decision; we do not represent you in contract negotiation. Legal advice, contract drafting, managed RFP work, migration, implementation, and ongoing provider governance sit outside this engagement.

Independence

The recommendation is not tied to the provider outcome.

Our recommendation is not compensated based on which provider outcome you choose; the full independence model is set out in Approach.

That does not predetermine the answer. The evidence can support staying with the incumbent.
